Quinnipiac polls (Rupert Murdoch polls?)

The latest numbers from Quinnipiac suggest biased polling data - biased sampling procedures (biased in favor of John McCain and the Republican Party). We now learn that the Quinnipiac polls are sponsored by the Wall Street Journal, owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Coincidence?

It used to be possible to rely on Quinnipiac University polling, but that era may now be past, if Quinnipiac is going to bend its sampling procedures to suit the owner of the Wall Street Journal and Fox News, Rupert Murdoch.

Or, you know, it could just be that the polls have a few flaws this time around. Quinnipiac does have professionals running its polls.

Why should Quinnipiac besmirch their own reputation by now giving up their independence?

Quinnipiac was great when they were independent.

They are no longer independent, but have sold themselves out to the highest bidder - Rupert Murdoch.

As soon as they ally themselves with Murdoch, they suddenly start publishing lousy poll data.

Surprise? Coincidence? No - collaboration.

You're basing some grand conspiracy theory on one set of polls that was released today, and with zero evidence? Quinnipiac doesn't weight by party i.d. It's entirely possible that they got more Republicans in their sample than usual. And, really, with that mindset, who do you trust? PPP is a Democratic-based poll. Rasmussen is funded by Republican interests.

It really erodes a person's credibility to start complaining of a conspiracy with no tangible evidence to back it up.

much now as I did before they alligned themselves with the right wing extremist Rupert Murdoch, whose one clear goal is to subvert our democracy, or turn it into a perpetual right-wing government.

As soon as Murdoch "owns" Quinnipiac's poll, magic - poof - the numbers turn up looking screwy.

If I was a Quinnipiac staff, student, or alum, I wouldn't want my University's reputation tainted by association with Rupert Murdoch.

Wow. One set of narrowing polls from Quinnipiac and swoosh under the busand the Q-Polls are branded a slanted right-winged conspiracy. For shame.

We don't want to get to comfortable...it's good to have a "seemingly" close race.

I think we have to take seriously the fact that Quinnipiac is now in the employ of Rupert Murdoch. And, furthermore, anyone would have to admit that the Minnesota poll showing a near deadheat is way off base compared to any other pollster.

Why? Have they fired any employees? Have they edited any pre-published results?

Just because an owner several layers removed is someone people disagree with doesn't mean that the company has suddenly become compromised. Their business depends on the perception that they are reasonably accurate. Even the best polling outfits have inaccurate polls fairly regularly.

Have they not fired any employees? Have they manipulated their data? I don't think we know that yet, just as I don't know the answers to your questions.

All I am saying is that when vermin like Rupert Murdoch is involved with them, they should be carefully watched and taken seriously; as the possibility of manipulation exists. Republicans have been known to steal elections, so manipulating poll results is certainly not beyond them.

Has Quinnipiac fallen victim to this? I don't know, but I do trust them less since Murdoch has become involved.

Everyone says that polling at this juncture isn't meaningful, and to some extent that's true, but we need to bear in mind that polling at any juncture helps bring money and resources into a campaign and good polling numbers helps to build enthusiasm, while the opposite is true for poor numbers.

Therefore we should be extremely careful about the reliability of the polls that we watch. I repeat, any poll that has Murdoch's involvement has to be seen as suspect.

Rasmussen has Obama losing Ohio by 10 points, so i guess rasmussen isn't credible either. This will be no cake walk for obama.

Well Rasmussen is still the same polling outfit that had George Bush ahead of Al Gore by 7 points on election day 2000.

it remains to be seen if this is signifcant or not. Q has been polling for a while now with excellent results. Also, the WSJ has been commissioning polls for a long times and has never been Democrat friendly, yet they have commissioned many an accurate poll.

I just go off the phone with Quinnipiac Polling Institute. What they have is a polling agreement with the Journal and the Washington Post.
Such as:

they are not employed by Rupert Murdoch. Do you know what QUinnipiac is? It's a university. They are employed in the University AND have a parternship agreement with the WSJ and the WaPo.

Yes I know and they are directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D. However when you are working for Rupert Murdoch, you are suspect as far as I'm concerned. And whether you'd like to believe it or not, you are working for the people who commission you to do the work.

You are working for them, but that doens't mean that you have to compromise your ethics and your personal and professional reputations in doing so. For example, the Wall Street Journal had always been anti Democratic as far as I can remember, but Al Hunt worked there for years and did excellent work. If Q exclusively polled for Murdoch entities and Murdoch entities only, I'd be worried.

The poll was also sponsored by the Washington Post. Did Murdoch buiy that as well. And isn't Murdoch's daughter a big Obama supporter anyway.

Quinnipiac does polls for whoever is willing to pay for them. That doesn't give ownership of the polling company to whoever requested the poll.

Polls move all of the time. The first factor is the margin of error, then you have changing demographics from poll to poll, the wording of the questions, the order of the questions, etc...

I wouldn't get too upset just because Q Polls show a tightening in one poll release.

CT. Their polling institute is a reputed institution and one single polling sponsorship from WSJ and WaPo is not enough for them to besmirch that reputation. The Q-Pac methodologies are given as follows:

Here is another crap Murdoch controlled poll (none / 0)

According to the latest Fox News poll, Sen. Barack Obama barely edges Sen. John McCain among registered voters, 41% to 40%.

However, when asked which candidate will ultimately win in November, 51% say Obama, 27% say McCain while 22% are still unsure.

Stunning finding: 10% believe Obama is a Muslim while another 27% are unsure.

I find Quinnipiac to be reliable, especially in the Mid Atlantic and NE region. I would question the results of the COlorado Poll, as they do not have much experice polling there.

It's stuff like this that makes me wonder if the Obama fans are not loosing their marbles. He's going to have problems in all these states as has pointed out a million times by the Clinton supporters who were dismissed as idiots. It's why I still put the odds on him putting her on the ticket. He needs her a lot more than he needs Wes Clark, John Edwards, Sam Nunn or any of the other non events that seem so popular.

Obama fans? Please: leave the bad attitude back in the primaries.

Besides, one of the people arguing that Quinnipiac is suspect was a Clinton supporter. Most of the people saying that it's reliable are Obama supporters.

We should be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies.

The Q polls have always been biased against Obama. I remember in the primaries they always had Obama way behind even when he was winning. So, I am not surprised with these poll results. I think that Q has a bias that leans away from Obama whether he runs against McBush, Hillary or whomever.
